Life With Woody” 10 Inspiring Quotes That Can Improve You

You may need to take a little chocolate or perhaps a few rounds of cocktail or any other booze you could get your hands on when you have to calm yourself down after a hard day’s job. All right, yeah I’m also to be held responsible for that one as well, except if I’m caught dead wearing a lampshade over my head after a few rounds of vodka… half-naked! Okay, bad example and I ask for forgiveness from everyone reading this after getting terrible dreams about me in that state of drunken trance.

Just don’t ask how it happened, please.

But what’s really interesting is that how do people go through the usual part of life when faced with vein-popping stress? I mean, the new age thing like Zen or yoga is one of the good things and it actually works. Is there room for the intellectual side of people who can actually smell the roses-in-a-can while on the move? It kind of had me thinking that there really must be something in this ‘mind-over-matter’ thing.

Notwithstanding what’s been happening, and to those who has gone though the ordeal, it’s better to just laugh while facing the troubles with a clear mind than anger with a clouded vision. Indeed the best remedy there is whenever and wherever you are is humor. I mean anyone can pay good money to listen to a comedian just to make you wet your pants after laughing so hard.

One of my favorite celebrities of all time may have to be Woody Allen. Now this is one guy who gives you the in-your-face bluntness that he pulls out with gusto, even without even trying. You can talk just about anything with a man, and he’s bound to mock the subject and you’ll end up laughing rather than being upset about it.

Here are Woody Allen’s humorous quotes:

1. “Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.” It sounds good to me, I mean the practicality of all things does involve money but it doesn’t have to take an arm and a leg to get it.

2. “I believe there is something out there watching us. Unfortunately, it’s the government.” He thought.

Piano Lessons For Beginners – Top 3 Reasons To Give Piano Lessons Online A Try

However, nowadays the internet is making it possible to learn the piano at home without even needing a traditional teacher. In this article we will look at the benefits of choosing online piano software and 3 reasons to try piano lessons online.

1. Less Expensive: Taking piano lessons the traditional way can cost a lot. And although there are many benefits to studying the piano this way, it isn’t the only way available to do so anymore. You could easily spend $15 or more for a half hour lesson every week. This can add up to over $700 per year, and if you take lessons outside of the home you also have to factor in gas mileage. Using the internet to learn is a much less expensive way to learn.

2. Study at Your Own Pace: Choosing to learn online piano lessons via software allows you to study at your own pace. You can skip ahead to future lessons or slow everything down if you wish. A piano teacher won’t be able to control you and decide whether or not you are ready for a certain piece of music.

3. Play The Pieces You Want: With traditional lessons, you are at the whim of your teacher and typically they are going to want you to strictly play classical pieces in the beginning. While classical pieces are a must for learning technical skills and mastering theory, they can often be boring and decrease the motivation to learn. Piano lessons that you take online allow you much more freedom to choose what you want to learn.

This article discussed 3 reasons to try piano lessons online. Choosing this way to study the piano is less expensive, allows you to study at your own pace and pick the kinds of pieces you really want to play.

Since this is a kind of a new concept of learning an old instrument, it may be a little questionable to you at first. The same principles apply however for online piano instruction as they do for traditional lessons. Don’t be afraid to give it a try.

Speed Reading – Where Do You Start?

Filed under: entertainment — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , — Gail Jones @ 12:43 am October 25, 2009

No one really knows when speed reading was first used, but it might have been a long while in the past. For hundreds of years, reading was the privilege of a minority of the most highly-educated people in the world, the overwhelming majority of whom were monks and priests. This small, select group of men protected their privilege and were loathe to coach the general populace to read. Furthermore, during those hundreds of years there were relatively few books to read compared with today. Books were also very costly as they all had to be copied out by hand. Possibly the only fact that has not altered is that the Bible was the most common book in existence and even now the Bible is the most prevalent book.

The world is quickly becoming a place where individuals are slowly but surely giving up on books and becoming fixed in front of monitors or television screens. In such a world, parents must not ignore the importance of developing a zeal for reading in themselves and their children. Reading is a habit that should be established when the child is fairly young, so what can you do to engender this habit?

Well, there are a number of strategies you can make use of, although one of the best to show the way by example. Read with your child every day, even if its only for 10-15 minutes. Permit your child to see you reading. By this I mean, don’t only read in bed before you go to sleep, but in place of watching television sometimes and read your children a bed-time story. Encourage them to read too. You could also:

Enroll your child for reading classes, if you honestly don’t have any time or your child is a little slow at reading. There are many well-structured after school reading classes that endeavor to make books more attractive to children. They help children with pronunciation, sayings and phrases. These lessons can be fun with animated characters and pictures, especially for young children,. They often make use of picture books, nursery rhymes, silly songs and short stories to enliven the imagination of younger children.

You will have to find out how to arouse your child’s interest. If your child has a preferred character, pick a series of books that include this character. Attempt to encourage your children to read proper books not comics. The style in comics usually leaves a great deal to be desired with its sloppy English and street slang. Instead, go for series of books like Harry Potter or Tarzan.

You should build yourself a library of your own books. This may sound a little impressive, but after all, a library is only a collection of books. Begin with a good-looking bookshelf that you can easily add to. A talent like reading cannot be learned in only one place, so you cannot afford to leave all the hard work to the day-school or even the after school programs. You have to pick up books that you think your child will like too. Make use of the Internet as a source for learning about the contemporary reading games that will attract young children to the superior and ancient art of reading,

When you child is interested in reading for its own sake, you might read up on speed reading. Speed reading is best suited for informative learning and background reading. It’s immensely suited to cramming or studying for examinations. It is ideal for school and university. However, the first job, before you can think about speed reading, is to get your child reading in the first place.

Yoga Music For Meditation Series – The Word OM

OM And LOGOS

In Christianity we call the primal vibration, from which everything comes from, the word. In Hinduism the equivalent is the sound word or mantra OM. OM and the word express the universal principle, a cosmic sound or vibration, which is the original source for everything that exists.

Pythagoras describes the same thing in his philosophical ideas in the Music of the Spheres, where it is stated that the physical sound that we hear is but a reflection of the LOGOS (Greek) meaning the cosmic sound.

Christianity And The Word

The Christian tradition speaks of the power of the word. God speaks words and creates universes. “God said: Let there be light. And light came” (book of Moses). God utters words and the universe is created.

These words are sound emanations coming from a higher level of reality. We just call them words in our sphere of being. This symbolism is present in many spiritual/religious traditions where reality is created by vibration or sound.

OM And The Atom

Thought the Upanishads from ancient India and modern physics are completely different in terminology and in the organization of knowledge there are some striking similarities. Both support the idea that OM is the original cosmic vibration or that the universe has its seat in vibration.

When we dive into the atom we discover that all matter is in a state of vibration. That vibrations come close to our perception of sound in its poetical quality of music, is expressed by the physicist Dr. Donald Hatch, who states that the universe is not made of matter, but music gives a modern equivalent to the idea of OM as the sound of creation.

Sound Over Matter

We know that the solidity of matter is an illusion and that all matter consists of atoms, separated in enormous distances compared to their size. And that the atoms themselves are not at all solid, but consist of energy in movement.

The scientist Donald Andrews describes the universe as consisting of atoms which send out a main tone, which then combine in groups forming molecules which he poetically sees as being cosmic chords. All matter and forms can be seen as living entities comprised of chords with each their own complex sound.

OM And Our Everyday Life

The creation myths might in fact also be describing the process of creation which continually happens within us. All our thoughts, feelings and emotions create their own chords which crystallize in the complex chords of our personalities and being. Our main aim would then be to make this a harmonious chord which sounds beautifully and harmonically with the chord of the universe. Only then can we be truly happy when we are in true “harmony” with the universe.

Matter is created by cosmic sound, Matter is cosmic sound. Matter is OM, crystallized and made physical. The universe, the earth and we only exist because the Word is continuously brought forth. Remove the Word, and only the pure empty space ” ananda (the creative void as described by the ancient yogis of India) – will be left. This is the original state of the universe before the creation.

OM As A Spiritual Practice

For a yogi OM is just as real as the air he breaths. Christian mystics have felt the power of the Word inside and around them and known that the whole creation is neither complete nor ended, but is an ongoing process.

We have to understand that we are all co creators of the universe through the continual creation of our own WORDS or Music, continually bringing into manifestation through our thoughts, longings, desires and speech. We alone can choose whether our symphony is in harmony or not with the cosmic symphony.

So be ever mindful of what you send out because the universe hears your song!
